Do you feel like life is becoming unmanageable?

Maybe you’re fighting with your partner and worried that your relationship will end, or getting into arguments with your boss or coworkers. You may not be enjoying things anymore, or you might be finding that you’re simply too anxious to leave the house much at all. Perhaps you feel guilty or ashamed that you can’t let go of the things that have happened to you in the past.

Are you beginning to notice how your trauma history influences so many aspects of your everyday life?

  • Work can be a nightmare between having to get along with people and also not being able to focus on completing your work.

  • You don’t enjoy things anymore, but you’re trying to fake it for your kids or significant other.

You know it’s time for a change. Trauma therapy can help.

Why Trauma Therapy Is So Effective

Poster with words related to trauma on it. Trauma is not easy to manage alone. During this time, you may be wondering, how can I manage my PTSD symptoms? Begin working with a Georgia trauma therapist who understands how to help.

How can working with a trauma therapist in Duluth, Georgia help me?

As a trauma therapist, I’ve helped hundreds of people work through traumatic experiences from their past, and reduce the symptoms that they were experiencing. I understand how hopeless things feel when you’ve been traumatized and you’re experiencing depression or anxiety related to the trauma. With treatment, things can get better and life can become worth living again.

WHAT WE’LL DO TOGETHER

As a skilled trauma therapist, I can help you:

Explore the root of the problem

Before solving a problem, it is important to understand where it started and how it developed. When it comes to trauma therapy, often this involves looking back through your life and understanding what kinds of traumatic experiences you have been through and how they have impacted you.

Learn to regulate emotions

One of the biggest difficulties that trauma survivors struggle with is learning how to control their (often big) emotions. So in trauma therapy and PTSD treatment, one of our goals is usually to work on learning to tolerate, regulate, and talk to other people about the strong emotions that you experience on a daily basis.

Process traumatic memories

At the heart of trauma therapy is the work we do processing the memories you have of the traumatic experiences you have been through. This can be done through EMDR (read here for more info on this technique) or by talking through the memory. This happens when you are ready, and always goes at your pace.

Common questions about trauma therapy and PTSD treatment

  • For therapy sessions we will either meet online or in my office in Duluth, GA. In general, during therapy sessions we will talk about the issues that you are struggling with and focus on understanding both where these issues come from and ways that you can cope with your situation. We will discuss what you can do to decrease your symptoms and how you can improve your relationships. Prior to starting therapy, you can schedule a free 15 minute consultation with me, during which you can get a sense of what therapy sessions might be like.

  • There is a saying that trauma is in the eye of the beholder. This means that if you believe that what you experienced was traumatic, then yes, it was a trauma. People often think of trauma as only consisting of life threatening, dramatic events such as combat situations, car accidents, or sexual assault. However, other situations such as growing up with overly critical or narcissistic parents or being bullied during childhood and adolescence can also be traumatic. All of these experiences can impact your relationships, mood, and behavior in a negative way, and all of them can be considered traumatic. You may need trauma counseling to address symptoms of anxiety, depression, or relationship problems as a result, or you may need treatment for PTSD.

  • Events that may seem like smaller (non-life threatening) traumas can still significantly impact your mood, relationships, or behavior. You may also think about these events on a regular basis which can be disturbing to you. Therapy for trauma will help to address these issues. It can help to process those past experiences and improve how you are feeling and functioning in your daily life.

  • I’m not going to lie, therapy for trauma or treatment for PTSD can be tough at times. Talking about what you’ve experienced is difficult and can bring up unpleasant emotions. However, I am sure to help you to develop coping skills to deal with these emotions before we begin talking about your trauma history so that you are not overwhelmed at any point. Also, therapy goes at your pace. You are never pushed to talk about anything that you are not ready to discuss.

  • Therapy for PTSD or trauma is an investment, not only of money, but also of time and energy. My guess is that you’ve tried other things to improve your life, but that these things haven’t helped. Often people have been struggling for a long time, and have lost years of their life to their symptoms. It can be worth it to meet with a trauma therapist who has been helping people for many years to see how much you may be able to improve with treatment.
