Tele-therapy is a scheduled therapy session that take place through a HIPPA compliant video conferencing software. This allows the client the freedom to schedule sessions without having to travel to the therapist's office. The only caveat is that in most situations the client and therapist have to be in the same state, Georgia in this case.
People often have several questions when it comes to tele-therapy:
Will my insurance pay for it?
Yes, it should. Parity laws were put into place to cover tele-health services. However, my assistant would double check your benefits to make sure you are covered before we meet.
Will we ever meet in person?
Yes. Our first session will need to be in person so that I can make sure you are an appropriate candidate for tele-therapy. There are some clients that are not suitable for tele-therapy, including suicidal clients or other clients in crisis.
Is it the same as regular therapy?
Yes and no. It's definitely not exactly the same since we do not have the ability to sit across from each other and interact in person. However, it is similar in many ways. With a good microphone and strong internet connection, we are able to communicate quite easily, and the majority of the content we will discuss would likely be the same.
What are the benefits of tele-therapy?
There are several benefits to tele-therapy. You do not have to leave your house and deal with Atlanta traffic. You also are able to schedule appointments for times that might not have worked if you had to factor in the time to drive here. If you have any physical ailments that make it hard for you to get around, you will not have to worry about the stress of getting yourself here.
